Abstract

This research was conducted in 4 villages in Kampar District, Kampar Regency, with the aim of understanding strategies for conserving traditional prohibited forests by local communities. Research subjects were determined using a purposive technique. This research uses qualitative methods by collecting data through interviews and documentation. The number of research subjects was 4 people. The theory used is the social theory of Talcott Parsons. The results of the research show that the people of Kampar District have a social system that allows the preservation of the traditional Ghimbo Potai prohibited forest. The forest has important ecological and environmental value, including as a source of water that can be drunk directly. Many residents in Rumbio village and its surroundings obtain drinking water from this prohibited forest. The water is distributed to other areas such as Kampar, Bangkinang and Pekanbaru subdistricts. Traditional leaders and Ninik Mamak have an important role in preserving this prohibited forest. The future sustainability and preservation of the Ghimbo Potai Prohibited Forest will depend on the participation of all parties, including traditional stakeholders, government, religious scholars and the community.   Keyword : Traditional Figures, Forbidden Forest, Ghimbo Potai
