Abstract

This study aims to analyze the epistemology of Islamic education by focusing on the nature and sources of knowledge from an Islamic perspective, as well as its relevance to the development of contemporary Islamic education. The research employs a qualitative approach through library research by examining various literature related to the philosophy of knowledge and Islamic education. The findings indicate that the epistemology of Islamic education views knowledge as a unified whole derived from revelation, reason, sensory perception, and intuition. Knowledge is not merely understood as empirical information, but also encompasses spiritual and moral dimensions that aim to bring humans closer to Allah SWT and to achieve happiness in both this world and the hereafter. Furthermore, the concept of knowledge integration serves as an important foundation for overcoming the dichotomy between religious and general sciences. The relevance of Islamic educational epistemology in the contemporary context is reflected in efforts to develop an educational system that is holistic, integrative, and oriented toward character building. The thoughts of figures such as Al-Ghazali, Ibn Sina, Ibn Khaldun, Ki Hajar Dewantara, Azyumardi Azra, and Nurcholish Madjid emphasize that Islamic education must be adaptive to the developments of the times without neglecting spiritual values. Therefore, the epistemology of Islamic education plays an important role in building an educational system capable of producing knowledgeable, morally grounded individuals who are ready to face global challenges.
