This study examines the use of literal and figurative meaning in expressing emotion in the song “Her” by JVKE. The purpose of this research is to identify the types of meaning used in the lyrics and to analyze how these meanings contribute to emotional expression. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, focusing on selected lyrics that contain emotional elements. The data are analyzed by classifying them into literal and figurative meanings, interpreting their meanings, and explaining their emotional significance. The findings reveal that figurative meaning is more dominant than literal meaning in the song. Figurative language, particularly metaphor and hyperbole, is frequently used to convey complex emotional experiences such as love, sadness, fear, and vulnerability. Meanwhile, literal meaning provides clarity and supports the overall narrative of the song. The interaction between literal and figurative meaning creates a balanced and effective emotional expression. This study concludes that semantic analysis is useful in understanding how language functions to express emotion in song lyrics.
