Abstract

Breast milk is the best food for babies because it contains the most appropriate nutrients for their needs, yet the low rate of exclusive breastfeeding can be caused by various factors from the mother, baby, and environment, where one of the key determinants of success is breastfeeding self-efficacy, as mothers’ confidence in breastfeeding plays a very important role; therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between breastfeeding self-efficacy and exclusive breastfeeding using a literature review method by searching PubMed and Google Scholar for articles published in the last 10 years, and the results of 10 reviewed articles consistently showed a significant relationship between breastfeeding self-efficacy and the success of exclusive breastfeeding (p < 0.05), leading to the conclusion that increasing breastfeeding self-efficacy can influence exclusive breastfeeding outcomes in babies, so the role of midwives is crucial in enhancing mothers’ confidence to achieve optimal exclusive breastfeeding.
