MENINGKATKAN LITERASI BACA TULIS DAN BAHASA MELALUI KEGIATAN BIMBEL DI DESA SELAJAMBE
Abstract
Literacy skills are a critical foundation in education, but remain a major challenge in Indonesia, especially in rural areas. This study aims to improve literacy in reading, writing, arithmetic, basic English, and religious literacy through a tutoring program in Selajambe Village, Sukabumi. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) with a participatory approach that involved the community collaboratively. The program was implemented for one month with 25 participants aged from early childhood to elementary school through activities such as reading, writing, arithmetic, English language introduction, and Quran recitation.
The results of the study showed significant improvements in all aspects of literacy: reading ability (+40%), writing (+35%), arithmetic (+30%), English vocabulary mastery (+50%), and progress in religious literacy (+10%). The main supporting factors were the enthusiasm of the children and the support of their parents, although time and facility constraints were obstacles. This program proves the effectiveness of the PAR approach in improving children's literacy in rural areas. For sustainability, the active involvement of teachers and community leaders is needed to strengthen the foundations of literacy sustainably.
