Abstract

This study aims to determine how the implementation of guidance and counseling service management in handling problematic students at SMK HKBP Sidikalang for the 2024/2025 academic year. The research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, the researcher used source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the implementation of guidance and counseling service management at SMK HKBP Sidikalang is carried out through the processes of planning, organizing, implementing, and supervising. Based on literature review and preliminary observations forming the background of this research, the researcher assumed that the implementation of guidance and counseling service management, particularly in planning, organizing, and supervision, had not been running optimally. This assumption was based on several indications, such as lack of planning documentation, weak coordination among stakeholders, or unstructured supervision. However, after conducting a more in-depth investigation through observation, interviews, and documentation, the field findings revealed that these three aspects—planning, organizing, and supervision—were carried out quite well by the school. For instance, clear planning programs were in place, such as collecting data on problematic students from various sources; organizing was implemented through cooperation among the principal, counseling teachers, and homeroom teachers; implementation was conducted by counseling teachers working together with homeroom teachers in providing services; and finally, supervision was carried out by the counseling service providers by observing changes in the problematic students.
