Abstract

Speed ​​reading is the ability to read in the fastest possible time. The function of speed reading is to obtain information received quickly and on target. This study was conducted to analyze the speed reading ability of elementary school students from grade V. This study was conducted with the aim of: 1) Assessing comprehension and speed reading abilities; 2) Identifying the challenges faced by students when speed reading. This study uses a case study methodology and a qualitative approach. Speed ​​reading and comprehension tests, interviews, and observations were used as data collection methods. The results obtained from the study were: 1) The speed reading and comprehension abilities of elementary school students in grade V vary. There are several categories obtained by students when speed reading, namely 3 students in the very good category, 1 student in the good category, and 1 student in the fairly good category; 2) There are two obstacles that hinder the speed reading and comprehension abilities of elementary school students in grade V, namely the noise caused by their friends when reading and the lack of interest in reading by students.
