Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping students' basic abilities, especially at the Elementary School (SD) level, including narrative text writing skills. This study aims to analyze the critical thinking skills of fourth grade elementary school students in reconstructing narrative texts. The method used is a qualitative approach with four fourth grade students in Pariaman City as research subjects. Data were collected through observation and assessment of students' writing results based on a rubric that includes aspects of text content, text structure, language rules, and critical reasoning indicators. The results of the study showed that students' critical thinking skills varied, but most were able to demonstrate an understanding of narrative structures and use language quite well. The ability to convey logical reasons, sequence stories sequentially, and display imagination also began to develop although it still requires further coaching. This study emphasizes the importance of developing writing skills that are integrated with critical thinking skills in learning Indonesian at the elementary school level
